The jewellery market was healthy and strong, Christie's auction house said on Wednesday. The auction grabs 93 million dollars in its semi-annual luxury sales, though the two pieces leading did not reach their top estimate sale prices. 250 pieces of jewellery are on auction for the semi-annual sale. CHAIRMAN, CHRISTIE (ASIA PACIFIC), FRANCOIS CURIEL: "As the stock market in New York was taking a dip this morning, we just sold 93 million dollars worth of jewellery, with several big stones selling for more than 10 million dollars. More than 90% of the sales found a buyer, so that is the proof that we are dealing with a very healthy, strong jewellery market."

On Tuesday, at rival auction house Sotheby's, two dazzling pink and blue pear-shaped diamonds were together sold for more than 57 million dollars to a private buyer. Last month, a 59.60 carat pink diamond sold for a record 1.2 million dollars in Hong Kong.
