Badminton: Badminton Asia U-17 & U-15 Junior Championships To Host

Badminton Asia U-17 and U-15 Junior championships will be hosted in Yangon.

Badminton Asia championship has been once hosted in Myanmar in 1999. So the Badminton Asia offered to host it this year and the country accepted and is trying to hold successfully again.

Secretary, Myanmar Badminton Federation, Nyan Lwin said “We used to participate in Badminton Asia U-19 and U-17 championships in neighboring countries, in Thailand for example. We have 2 months for selection and training time. So we have been training the players by gathering the whole team. We will try with our best.”

13 Asian countries including host Myanmar will participate in the Championships.

Myanmar has achieved bronze medal in SEA Games as highest achievement in 1995. Any success hasn’t been achieved since then.

Secretary, Myanmar Badminton Federation, Nyan Lwin said “In these championships, Indonesia, Malaysia, Japan and India which are good at badminton will participate. So we will try with our best but achieving medals seems hard.”

The events are single and double for men and women and mixed categories in the championships.

The championships will be held from October 4th to 8th at Thuwanna National Indoor Stadium (1).
