Democracy Day: Myanmar Observed In Nay Pyi Taw

Myanmar observed the International Democracy Day for the 5th time in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday with an address by speaker of Pyidaungsu Hluttaw union parliament Thura U Shwe Mann. He said that Myanmar has been transforming to a multi-party democracy system since 2011 smoothly. So, he called for every citizen to cooperate for the success and flourishing of democracy system in which all are believed in and accepted, through the motto " Public participation for democracy", and serve for the interest of the country and the people more. Then messages sent from the president, the speaker of Amyotha Hluttaw national parliament, the UN general secretary and the Inter-Parliamentary Union(IPU) were read out. 22 resource persons from different political parties also read out the papers concerning 2015 International Democracy Day. The ceremony ended with a conclusion remark by speaker Thura U Shwe Mann. The IPU has designated September 15th as the International Democracy Day as the Democracy Declaration was issued on the day in 1997. The UN general assembly approved to hold the democracy days at its 62nd conference in 2007.
