A Karatedo competition for all states and regions kicked off at Wanna Theikdi Indoor Stadium in Nay Pyi Taw on Monday.
It’s organized by the Ministry of Health and Sports with the aim of selecting talented Karatedo athletes and strengthening the friendship among the contestants across the country.
General Secretary, Myanmar Karatedo Federation, Kyaw Kyaw Moe: There are lots of talents players across the country and this competition is to find them. We will make selection and have them undergo a training camp. Then, we will have them participate in regional competitions till they are experienced and qualified for International competitions.
A total of 199 contestants are competing in the four-day competition featuring Kata (showing martial art performance) and Kumite (fighting battle).
Contestant, Kayah State, Shwe Yi Win: I will be happy If I grab medals. But if I lose, I will review myself and try harder. I have competed in regional level competition before and I got the best player award last year.
Contestant, Rakhine State, Myo Zaw Hein: I started to do Karate in 2008. I always take enough time to practice. I will try to win best player award in this competition.
As for achievement, Karatedo grabbed nearly 40 medals for the country from 1999 to 2015.
Another 14 medals including 3 golds were occupied at Thailand Open Karatedo Competition in 2016 and 2017.
