Pena Nieto visits town reeling from deadly Mexico quake

21 September 2017

President Enrique Pena Nieto visited the central Mexican town of Jojutla on Wednesday. Jojutla in Morelos state is one of the regions worst hit by the quake. Across the state at least 71 people were killed. The earthquake has toppled dozens of buildings, torn gas mains and sparked fires across towns and cities in central Mexico, with extensive damage reported in parts of the capital. Some residents in Mexico City, home to about 20 million people, expressed frustration over what is to happen with their homes. Officials reported 44 buildings collapsed in Mexico City, but many have been left vulnerable should an aftershock hit. Nationally, at least 221 people have been killed by the quake.
