Union Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement Dr. Win Myat Aye met with the Sayadaws and representatives from Civil Society Organizations in Sittwe of Rakhine State on Saturday.
The Union Minister clarified the efforts of the Union Government for peace, repatriation of those who fled to the other country and resettlement plan. The attendees discussed the current challenges of the Rakhine people and pointed out that the government should implement to better livelihoods of the ethnic people with peace in the future.
The Union Minister in his capacity as the Vice Chairman of the Union Enterprise for Humanitarian Assistance, Resettlement and Development in Rakhine State, explained about the government’s preparations for repatriation process. He also elaborated on measures being undertaken by the UEHRD in Rakhine State including socio-economic development, assisting in small and medium-sized enterprises and creating job opportunities.
Earlier the day, the relief aids including the temporary shelters were shipped from Sittwe to Maungtaw. Deputy Minister for Social Welfare, Relief and Resettlement U Soe Aung and Rakhine State Minister for Electricity, Industry and Transportation U Aung Kyaw Zan coordinated for smooth process.
They also inspected the issuing of National Verification cards to Muslim people in Aungmingala Ward of Sittwe. 24 people came yesterday for NVC Card, and 317 people have already received the NVC Cards so far.
