World's first floating wind farm opens off Scotland

19 October 2017

Norway's international energy company Statoil has launched the first floating wind farm off Scotland. It opens up new areas for offshore wind power that previously has not been accessible because of the water depths. European wind power association said about 80 percent of Europe's offshore wind resource potential is in waters. Statoil said it had looked at potential areas outside Europe for floating wind developments, such as California, Hawaii and Japan. But the company had no new specific projects yet.
