Australia, NZ Remember War Dead
Tens of thousands gather to commemorate ANZAC Day, a day to remember soldiers who have served and died in wars and conflicts. Natasha Howitt from Reuters has this report. Reporter, Reuters, Natasha Howitt :Tens of thousands have gathered in various countries to commemorate ANZAC Day, a day to remember all Australian and New Zealand troops who have served and died in war. Whether during dawn services or military parades, countless flags were waved and wreaths laid. In Thailand, a group gather here at "Hellfire Pass", where the Japanese forced prisoners of war to work in brutal conditions in the early 1940s.
AUSTRALIAN FORMER PRISONER OF WAR, HAROLD MARTIN : "Everytime I come in here, I cannot believe that sick men did this job, even it would have been a difficult job for well men." ANZAC Day falls on April 25th every year, marking the date of one of the bloodiest battles of the First World War. In Gallipoli, where the battle took place, a dawn service is held to remember the 130,000 lives lost.
