Ban Ki-moon And Queen Rania Say Refugee Crisis Is A Global One
On the sidelines of the World Bank, International Monetary Fund (IMF) G20 activities, a panel of keynote speakers addressed the issue of forced displacement and the growing global refugee problem on Friday in Washington.
[Soundbite] UNITED NATIONS SECRETARY GENERAL BAN KI-MOON : "This will provide a platform to put the focus on root causes on prevention, to breech the gap between humanitarian and developmental assistance and to improve our global response to forced displacement. This is going to be the first ever in 70 years of United Nations history that we are convening this world humanitarian summit meeting because with more than 70 million displaced and refugees around the world it is totally unmanageable uncontrollable right now, we need a political solidarity to address all these issues."
[Soundbite] QUEEN RANIA OF JORDAN: "We know all too well that in our interconnected world, a crisis on one place is a crisis in all places. And we know what happens when people look at their future and see nothing, what happens when hope goes hungry for too long and how terror feeds on marginalization and despair."
