Border Trade: Value Up By 140 Mil USD
Border trade is slightly higher so far this fiscal year, with the latest data showing a total value of 2.8 billion USD. As of the last week of August, border trade is 140 million USD higher when compared to the same period last year. However, Myanmar’s biggest border trade hub Muse saw a decline of 114 million USD in exports and 20,000 USD in imports. But Myanmar’s other border trade camps are doing a better job, making the border trade income still bigger than last year’s. Except Muse, trade camps bordering China have traded goods worth over 139 million USD higher than the same period last year. In the Thai borders, it’s 124 million USD. Despite this, total commerce in the country is, so far, still lower than the earnings last year. Officials blame the unstable dollar rate and rampant smuggling.
