The issue on lack of infrastructure should be addressed firstly for the development of the agriculture sector, the business men highlighted at the meeting between the State Counsellor and businessmen, developers and the International Partners in Nay Pyi Taw, Saturday.

Priority on the development of Agriculture sector includes in the new government’s economic policies. The government will focus on the sustainable development of agriculture sector as 70% of nation population relies on it, the State Counsellor mentioned at her speech.

Meanwhile, the lack of infrastructures and high inflation are big challenges for the development of the agriculture sector, the  Industry leaders claimed.

Joint Secretary General , Myanmar Rice Federation , Dr. Soe Tun : If we prioritize to progress of agriculture sector, we should focus on something, like rice or paddy or crops. As the inflation remains high in the country, the power purchasing can be decreased and the country’s economic development can be getting slow. So, the high inflation should be addressed by solving the issue of Import/Export deficit, budget allocation and high cost of production.

Businessman, OHN SAING: If we prioritize on agriculture sector among others, we need to control the Supply change. But we have still difficulties in infrastructure. It should be handled first. And then, we must focus on cultivation like systematic use of chemical fertilizer.

Meanwhile, the meeting highlighted on the development of banking sector that plays a key role in the development of the country’s economy.

DEVELOPER, DR. KHIN SHWE: We should make reforms for the development of banking sector and taxation as it plays a key role in all sectors. As this sector is not strong, the business men from all sectors and SMEs can’t borrow finance from them. I believe if the government implements for improvement of the banking sector, the other sectors will improve.

As the lack of good quality seeds and post harvest technology delay to the development of country’s agriculture sector, the foreign investment on the technological development should be welcomed, the State Councilor highlighted at the meeting.
