Central System: Traffic Lights And CCTV In Yangon

Myanmar Shwe Ying Company won the bid for Central Traffic Light Control System for Yangon Region according to the criteria, head of the selection team told journalists on Tuesday, following criticisms over the selection process. 

17 members were included in the tender selection team which scrutinized the tendering process that started in July last year. There were initially 54 companies which showed the expression of interests to the project, but only 4 companies made it to the cut according to the specified the criteria.

MINISTER, NATIONAL RACES AFFAIRS MINISTRY (KAYIN), H.E. SAW TUN AUNG MYINT: We have made altogether 54 meetings for this tendering process and we finalized and choose with the decision of the committee numbers. There are 54 companies when they start submitting later on it only left 4 companies and we choose the best companies which meet our criteria. We are not choosing based on countries, we chose the company that can give the best guarantee and best services. We are doing the things and procedures within the framework and transparent manner.

The project will include installation and monitoring of over 600 CCTV at over 150 traffic lights in Yangon. 

On February 23, the selected company signed the contract of the project, which is targeted to complete within 180 days. If the companies cannot finish within the given period, the committee will charge 100 USD per day as fine. The project is hoped to reduce the traffic congestion from 30 to 40% after the installation.
