Fertility Centre Central : Women's Hospital Launches New Facility

Special facilities for couples who have fertility problems can now consult with doctors, with the help of newer equipment in state-owned Central Women’s Hospital in Yangon for the first time. Special facilities such as in vitro-fertilization and intra-cytoplasmic sperm injection are available at the newly launched Fertility Centre of that hospital. Previously, treatments for infertility only included medicines. About 100 couples monthly consult the hospital for fertility problems, according to hospital records. Currently, the hospital provides basic healthcare including maternity services such as delivery, operations, and others, free of charge. However for the new special facilities, patients have to pay, the hospital’s medical superintendent said.

MEDICAL SUPERITENDENT ,CENTRAL WOMEN’S HOSPITAL (YGN) ,DR. PA PA : "Since this is a kind of special healthcare services, we still can’t provide the processes to be free. They have to pay proper costs for it. But we will fix it in reasonable cost and it will surely be cheaper than in other places like in private hospitals or getting treatments in other countries".

10 staff including 2 technicians were appointed for the centre. Over 500 million kyat budget was used for installation of the required equipment.
