File footage shows former Chinese military officer to be prosecuted for graft

China will prosecute a former top military officer for corruption, the second senior officer to be investigated, as President Xi Jinping widens his campaign against deep-rooted graft in the country, the government said. In unusually strong language, China's top newspaper lauded the decision to prosecute a former senior military officer for graft on Friday  saying that a "wicked man" had been wiped out by the "anti-corruption sword". Guo Boxiong, 73, was a vice chairman of the powerful Central Military Commission until he stepped down in 2012. Sources said that Guo, has cancer, and the party had been in a quandary about whether to prosecute him in case he died before reaching trial. It has not been possible to reach Guo or his family members for comment and it is not clear if he has a lawyer. Chinese President Xi Jinping has made weeding out corruption in the military a top goal.
