GIS Substation: More Electricity Supply In Yangon Region
The very first 230 KV Gas Insulated Switchgear (GIS) technology power substation was inaugurated in East Dagon Township in Yangon Region, Sunday.
The main purpose of the Station is to supply more electricity in Yangon Region. At present, the electric power consumption of Yangon Region is about 1,250 megawatt and this substation can provide 250 megawatt of electricity.
Deputy Minister, Ministry of Electric Power, H.E. Aung Than Oo: At present, only 34 % of the country’s population can access electricity. In Yangon, electricity consumption is very high than other places as it is a commercial city. This GIS substation will provide more electricity supply to the eastern parts of Yangon Region.
The Ministry of electric power has implemented more power supply in Yangon Region since 2012. This sub-station was built in 2013 and completed in the early of this year including cable grid and mono poles.
Managing Director, Myanmar Electric Power Enterprise, Htein Lwin: We use the new GIS technology in building this sub-station. This facility cost about 18 million USD and we used 5.1 million Euros for the power grid line and 11 billion kyats for mono poles. We are now constructing 8 feeders for more electric supply in townships of Yangon.
Deputy Chief Engineer, Ministry of Electric Power, Myo Naing: We are implementing short and long term plan to supply electricity the whole country under the National electrification plan with the assistance of World Bank and international support. We will build more GIS substations depending on the budget.
This substation will distribute more electricity to the households in seven townships and industrial zones in Yangon Region.
