Human Rights Film: 9 Awards Were Presented

The awarding ceremony of Human Rights and Human Dignity Film Festival was held upon the State Counsellor Daw Aung San Su Kyi’s birthday on June 19th in Yangon. 

9 awards were presented to the winners this year’s human rights and human dignity film festival. The 

documentary film “Vein” won 2 prizes for Daw Aung San Su Kyi and Hanthawaddy U Win Tin awards. 

FILMMAKER, HTET AUNG SAN: This documentary highlights the migrant workers who search jade and stone near the heap of soil. Numbers of people died by the massive landslide in Hpakant. There is no grantee for those people. Numbers of companies that operate jade mining industry in this area, dug and dumped the soil undisciplined. We want to highlight those people in Hpakant dumped soil areas. 

Two animated films were competed in this festival. A short animated film, “My life I don’t want” featuring the life of a Myanmar girl, got “the March 13 award”. 

ANIMATOR, NYAN KYAL SAY: I saw different kind of girls and different kind of life in our environment. This animation mentions about the life of a needy girl. I think my animation can give encouragement to those needy girls around our environment. I had to take about 8- month for this animation.  

The juries securitized the VOA award with the out of 21 documentary films.  

FILMMAKER, NWAYE ZAR CHE SOE: My document features the disable family life, highlighting the struggles and surroundings faced by a disabled from the rural area, the supports of his wife and the attitudes towards their disabled father by the children.  I am glad to win VOA award and also really thanks to the disable family who participated in my documentary. 

The winners were offered the sculpture and cash prizes of 1,000 USD each.
