Khuodo Pawi: Zomi Tribes Celebrate In Yangon

Zomi which is a major ethnic group of Chin nationals gathered in Yangon on Friday to celebrate the Khwar Do festival for the 4th time. 

The Zomi Khwar Do festival is celebrated in all Zomi people across the country, aiming to preserve their culture and traditions as well as the zomi language among the young people. 

Meanwhile, the zomi people live in Chin State, Sagaing Region and throughout the whole country. Among them, more than a thousand of Zomi tribe live in Yangon. 

Secretary, Zo Khuodo Pawi Organizing Committee , Kam Khen Dal: We, Zo people who are residing in Yangon organized the Khwar Do festival annually since 2008 as we want to maintain our traditions and culture and to introduce our traditions among young generations. Chin young people will perform with traditional dances and modern songs in this one day festival.  

Chin traditional songs and dances are performed to the audience who joined the festival wearing Zomi traditional costumes.

Vung Sun Cing: As I’m Chin national, I participate in this festival by performing with traditional dances together with my friends. I am very pleased as our chin nationals got a chance to celebrate this festival together and see all our Zo tribes with traditional dress. 

Over a hundred Zomi tribes joined the festival which is celebrated for the 4th time.
