Library Development: IPRD, MBAPF And IREX Signed MOU
In order to develop library infrastructure and digital libraries in Myanmar, Ministry of Information, NGOs and INGOs singed MOU to facilitate library modernization.
The MOU aimed to cooperate for modernizing in public libraries including technology, infrastructure, capacity building.
Acting Director-General, IPRD , Maung Pe : MOU includes capacity building for librarians, library modernizing and using advanced technology. The project term to develop libraries in Myanmar 5-years from 2017 to 2021. IPRD is carrying out to get more community interests to our libraries. That’s why we are cooperating with other foundations to develop libraries in Myanmar.
At present, there are over 5000 public libraries across the nation including the libraries of Ministry of Information.
The capacity building of the public librarians is one of the key points in the project to provide new library services, the participants in the event said.
Executive Director, MBAPF , Dr. Thant Thaw Kaung : “We are over 50,000 public libraries across the country. At this moment, through the beyond access we are equipped these libraries this moment 90 libraries are equipped with the digital devices…. Training to the public librarians is to key part in this main access to through the project because we have to train our public librarian with the new library services …”
Regional Director for Asia , Beyond Access , Ari Katz : “Over the last three years have amazing successful and I think a lot of communities are benefits from having a library nearby with a train. The purpose of this event is to help to expand these projects and strengthen cooperation. So we can which more libraries, more communities and more people. So, everyone in Myanmar has excising information they need improve the life and someone help them find the use it.
Local and international library foundations are providing modernized public library system by drawing master plan in cooperation with MOI.
