Libyan forces edge closer to IS stronghold

Security sources say they have taken control of at least one military camp. Forces aligned with the new U.N.-backed unity government launched an offensive to recapture the city last month. The Government of National Accord, or GNA, has been trying to establish authority over Libya's competing factions since March. Libya slid into chaos five years ago, after the toppling of veteran ruler Muammar Gaddafi allowed Islamic State to set up their most important base outside Syria and Iraq. Western powers see the GNA as the best hope for defeating Islamic State in the country.
