Literature Festival: Promoting Reading Rate

The Monsoon Art Festival, featuring knowledge and aesthetic books selling and seminars told by experts from literature industry, kicked off Friday.

The festival is aiming to promote reading rate among people. Yangon Gallery has been organizing the event over the last three years.

Books range from local knowledge and aesthetic literature to transcript and famous books written in English.

Assistant Coordinator, The Yangon Gallery, Htet Naing Lynn: I want youths to read more. I also want to promote the reading rate through this kind of literature festival. Actually the more we can organize literature festival; the more people get exposure with books. I want everyone to come here especially youths and students so that they can read more books.

According to the organizer, books being published locally decline as time goes by because of decreasing of reading rate.

Assistant Coordinator, The Yangon Gallery, Htet Naing Lynn: Not only books but also paintings are displayed so that people can enjoy both. It also has seminars told by experts from literature industry. That’s why I’d like to invite everyone.

As some films are based on famous novels, film showing is also included. It will be shown on the last day of festival, on September 4th.
