Major international drug bust on cocaine headed for Europe
Authorities say they've seized 11 tons of cocaine and made 33 arrests across two continents in an operation by law enforcement agencies from Italy, Colombia and the United States. Reporter, Reuters, Gavino Garay >>> <<< The alleged drug traffickers were using crates of tropical fruits and vegetables to conceal cocaine aboard container ships bound for Europe from Colombia. Authorities say they busted 33 people in a major operation involving Italy, Colombia, and the U.S, seizing 11 tons of cocaine before the ships departed. Jim Allen, the DEA director for Europe and Africa, made the announcement with his Italian counterparts in Rome. Police say the cocaine was refined in the remote jungles of Colombia, before it was shipped out of the country via Panama, Costa Rica and the Dominican Republic.
