Market Comeback: Ajinomoto To Relaunch Operations In Myanmar: Nikkei Asian Review

Ajinomoto plans to re-launch production and sales of its popular seasoning in Myanmar in 2017, according to Nikkei Asian Review’s report. The maker of the Aji-no-moto seasoning and other food products has recently established a Myanmar unit at a capitalization of roughly 1.2 billion yen or 10.6 million dollars, the report said. The Japanese Company plans to set up a factory with a total floor space of about 5,000 square meters in Thilawa Special Economic Zone. The plant will import monosodium glutamate, or MSG, from Thailand and package it for the Myanmar market. The operation is expected to start with about 100 employees including salespeople, and will be sold out in Yangon and Mandalay initially. The company aims to generate 3 billion yen in annual sales by fiscal 2020. Ajinomoto first set up its Myanmar unit in Yangon in 1996 but stopped its operation in 2000 when the then government banned it from importing ingredients.
