Myanmar Coffee: Speciality-Grade From Shan Highland

Coffee lovers can enjoy variety of coffee tastes at Myanmar Specialty Coffee Show in Yangon.

This is the first ever Coffee Show, organized by USAID in cooperation with Myanmar Coffee Association and Winrock International.

USAID has a 5 year project with Myanmar Coffee Association to facilitate the quality of coffee from production/processing through cupping, with the goal of producing high-value specialty coffee in the Northern Shan State Area. 

Organizer, Winrock International , Anne-Chaire Degail: "Today we organized together with the Myanmar Coffee Association an event to make Myanmar Specialty coffee better known to the Myanmar Public. we contacted all the companies and they all the one interested participated basically. These are the companies who produce the best Myanmar Coffee."

Myanmar has been exporting coffee to neighboring countries since 2002. Myanmar mainly exported to Japan and Korea and some European countries. 

The local companies said Myanmar Coffee is in good demand at international market. 

Exhibitor, Sithar Coffee Co., Ltd, Yu Phyo Aung: The coffee seeds and crops are chosen the best out of our local seeds from Shan State Ywar Ngan Area. We have already been exporting our products to USA, Australia and Japan since 2 years back and there is good demand of Myanmar Coffee. We have started distribution in Myanmar since 1996. 

With the display of coffee brewing techniques by the international experts, coffee lovers can enjoy variety taste of coffees such as Espresso, Latte and Arabica.

Consumer, Yamin: I just come to visit here and saw coffee show. As I am a coffee lover so i cannot stay without tasting. I always choose organic black, freshly brewed coffee rather than 3 in 1 coffee in terms of taste and freshness. 

The one-day event aims to publicly promote high-quality, specialty-grade Arabica coffee from the Shan highlands and Pyin Oo Lwin, and to build awareness of locally-grown specialty coffee by promoting organics coffee consumption among Myanmar public.
