Oil & Gas: British Business Delegation In Myanmar
A business delegation led by Chairman of Aberdeen International Associates (AIA) Gordon Mclntosh is now in Myanmar to identify areas where British expertise and experience can help, for the development of offshore oil and gas sector.
8 British companies were awarded offshore licenses in 2014. They are currently in the exploration phase.
AIA will meet government officials and ten local oil and gas companies to see needs in training and improving capacity and their ability to acquire an international certification that can enable them to tender for contracts from international oil and gas companies.
HEAD OF PROSPERITY, BRITISH EMBASSY YANGON, ANTHONY PRESTON: "So our message to British business is to come here, to better understand the situation and to start building those relationships. And its for local companies to really prepare yourselves for the inflow of business from the UK, from other countries as well, because there is a lot of interest. We just need to turn that interest into real business...."
Myanmar is the 10th largest producer of oil and gas globally, according to British Embassy. The outlook for Myanmar’s oil and gas sector has a lot of optimism.
CHAIRMAN, ABERDEEN INTERNATIONAL ASSOCIATES, GORDON McINTOSH: "I think, in terms of Myanmar offshore, development i've been watching that very, very carefully, clearly that's been an industry here proven 100 years, but the offshore pieces are different thing together It's different scales, and the earlier work and speaking to some of the operators to deal, such as Woodside and shell, they see huge optimism, there is tremendous optimism and what that might be there... but until it is proven, and every one of these drill, until string going down to every new hole, then, you can't be sure. But the general is speaking, the size make looks good, and the companies that I speak to are very optimistic. “
The delegation will stay in the country until Sunday, and will be back again in November, to upscale and provide necessary training to local oil and gas firms.
