Orangutans rescued from Indonesia’s forest fire return home

Three orangutans which were rescued from Indonesia's forest fires returned to the wild last week. Sabtu, Butan and Marsela were saved by the International Animal Rescue (IAR) team from local villages after their habitat was destroyed by peatland clearing fire. About a hundred orangutans from various sanctuaries were evacuated to safety from forest fires last year as Kalimantan was one of the worst affected areas of the annual slash-and-burn land clearing practices. World Wildlife Fund said that in 1997, forest fires in Kalimantan that lasted for six months killed up to 8,000 Orangutans.
