Rice Exports: Myanmar, Indonesia To Sign Deal On Rice Trade

Myanmar is expected to sign a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Indonesia on rice trade, the Ministry of Commerce was quoted saying in a report by Myanmar Eleven. The deal will allow Myanmar to export up to 500,000 tons of rice annually until 2019. A Myanmar delegation to negotiate the terms is due to visit Indonesia this month to sign the agreement. According to Jakarta Post, Indonesia last year expressed interest in importing rice from Myanmar, which currently exports almost 90% of its rice to China. The Myanmar Rice Federation is also looking at increasing sales to Indonesia, the Philippines and Japan.
