Rural Electrification : 4,000 Off-The-Grid Villages To Access Electricity Next F.Y.
To fulfill the needs of electricity in rural areas, over 4,000 villages across the country will be electrified during 2016-2017 fiscal year, the Myanma Alinn Daily reports citing the Department of Rural Development (DRD). DRD is drafting the short and long terms plans for off-Grid areas electrification with solar energy. The department is also training staff on installation of solar power system. The department is implementing the project through Public-Private Partnership, in cooperation with international organizations like ADB, KfW and JICA. In the upcoming fiscal year, under the Grid-Extension program, the Ministry of Electric power is going to supply electricity to over 2,200 villages, and the DRD to more than 1,800 villages by Off-Grid electrification system. In the current fiscal year, the Ministry of Electric Power and DRD provided electricity access to nearly 3,000 villages. Myanmar is trying to achieve National Electrification by 2030.
