Tourism Development: Plan To Enhance New Destinations
7.5 million tourists are targeted to receive in next three years according to the Director General of the Ministry of Hotels and Tourism at the Myanmar Hospitality and Tourism Conference 2016.
MHTC’s main focus for this year event is on investment opportunities at undeveloped areas in Myanmar. But still, lack of infrastructure in these areas remains the big challenge for the investors.
The Ministry of Hotels and Tourism focused on three sectors including the development of human resources, community based tourism and enhancing the new destinations areas.
DIRECTOR GENERAL , MINISTRY OF HOTELS AND TOURISM , TINT THWIN: Now our ministry is doing for the tourism development sector especially focus on human resources development as our industry is service providing industry. We are also expanding new destinations areas, and creating community based tourism to create job opportunities within the regions. And we are also implementing the improvement for the infrastructure especially in connectivity and transportation.
Industry players are optimistic about the future development of tourism sector.
GENERAL MANAGER , MERGUI PROJECTS & RIVER CRUISES , MAREK LENARCIK : “We can see the numbers definitely that there is more and more interested in Myanmar and coming to Myanmar however because of the election last year and all the changes which were experiencing we dun really see that the next season is going to much better or generally growing very fast. So the growth is sustainable way and we are very optimistic and we are looking at the long term perspective not the short term perspective”
Last year, Myanmar has received 4.68 million tourists and hoping to receive 5 million of tourists arrival this year.
