Trade & Investments: Indonesia-Myanmar Business Matching
Indonesian and Myanmar businessmen met Thursday to discuss opportunities in partnerships. Myanmar and Indonesia are targeting to boost bilateral trade to a billion USD by 2016.
With the aim to boost bilateral trade and investments, Indonesian Embassy Yangon and Union of Myanmar Federation of Chamber of Commerce and Industry (UMFCCI) held Indonesia-Myanmar Business Matching Program.
AMBASSADOR, REPUBLIC OF INDONESIA, H.E. ITO SUMARDI: “Every year we try to get the opportunity for the business matching between Indonesian businessmen and Myanmar businessmen. Followed by our efforts to enhance and to strengthen our bilateral cooperation especially in economic aspect, we also bring a financial bank from Indonesia which will support for our investments in here.”
Bilateral trade between Myanmar and Indonesia was at about 500 million USD last fiscal year.
Not only exporting, Indonesian companies are interested in making investments in Myanmar in various sectors.
PRESIDENT, UMFCCI, DR. MYO THET: They want to invest in oil and gas, pharmaceuticals etc. Last month Lippo group from Indonesia made a joint venture with Pun Hlaing group to establish hospitals across the country which is quite a big investment. Indonesia has a leading role in oil and gas sector so they want to invest here. And also in energy sector.
A total of seventeen Indonesian companies from different sectors ranging from garment & textiles, construction to infrastructure, led by EximBank presented at the business matching.
MANAGING DIRECTOR, EXIMBANK, DWI WAHYUDI: “We are coming to Myanmar because we see there is lot of opportunity that Indonesians will invest here. We are part of arm length of the government and we are ready to support them which they can invest and they can make business in Myanmar.”
The two countries target to reach one billion USD worth of bilateral trade by 2016.
