Turkey vows 'full force' after latest suicide blast

Armed police seal off a major commercial street in central Istanbul where a suicide bombing that the government says may have been set off by pro-Kurdish militants kills at least five people and wounds dozens more. Mana Rabiee from Reuters reports. Reporter, Reuters, Mana Rabiee <<< Armed police seal off a major commercial street in central Istanbul, where a suicide bombing has killed at least five people and wounded dozens more. The health ministry says 12 of the wounded were foreigners. A senior official says initial findings suggest the outlawed Kurdistan Worker's Party, the PKK-- or an affiliate -- was behind the blast. It comes less than a week after pro-Kurdish militants with the TAK claimed responsibility for an even deadlier bombing in Ankara that killed 37 people... leaving the public more on edge than ever. Still, the death toll in this latest attack could have been higher. Istanbul's central commercial streets are normally bustling with weekend shoppers but were less crowded than usual, as more people stay home, too nervous to venture out in the wake of the recent bombings. Turkey's been fighting a long-running conflict with pro-Kurdish militants in the mostly Kurdish southeast and the government has vowed to show its 'full force' in fighting against the attacks. But the latest bombings open a dangerous new phase in Turkey's war with the militants .... as the deadly attacks spread well beyond the southeast and into the heart of its biggest cities.
