US releases footage it says show Iran boats launching missiles
The United States Navy released footage on Saturday it says shows boats belonging to Iran's Revolutionary Guards launching rockets near a U.S. aircraft carrier in the Arabian Gulf on December 26th. The U.S. Navy said the infrared footage was shot by a U.S. Navy Seahawk helicopter and shows attack craft belonging to the Revolutionary Guards firing unguided rockets inside international waters in close proximity to the U.S.S. Harry S. Truman. On December 31, Iran denied that its Revolutionary Guards had launched rockets near a U.S. aircraft carrier on December 26th, as claimed at the time by U.S. military officials. The U.S. Navy said on Saturday that a French frigate and other commercial ships were transiting the Strait of Hormuz when the rockets were fired. Iranian and U.S. forces have clashed in the Gulf in the past, especially during the Iran-Iraq war in the 1980s after the 1979 Islamic revolution.
