A week full of animal rescues
A Sicilian kitten is given CPR, a baby bobcat makes its home at the Oregon Zoo, SeaWorld releases 15 green sea turtles, and white lion cubs are born in Tbilisi, Georgia .... in this week's top animal stories. Gavino Garay from Reuters reports. Reporter, Reuters, Gavino Garay .. This one-month old kitten was 'brought back to life' after falling into a Sicilian harbor and almost drowning. The Italian coast guard quickly dove in to try to give it a second chance. After a minute of CPR, including mouth to mouth resuscitation -- a miracle. So moved by the rescue, port authorities have adopted the kitten and named him "Charlie". Moving on to another kind of rescue... this time in Oregon, where the state zoo has a new resident. This baby bobcat kitten was taken out of the woods by people who thought they were rescuing it. But veterinarians say the two month-old animal wouldn't survive if it were released back into the wild because it's become 'habituated' around humans. From rescued in the wild -- to releases into the wild... fifteen green sea turtles were set free into the Pacific by Sea World San Diego. They were among some 82 Eastern Pacific green sea turtles the aquarium hatched a few years back. Electronic tags are being used to research the endangered species as they migrate south with the hopes they'll survive. Going back to the zoo, three rare white lion cubs were born at the Tbilisi, Georgia zoo to lioness Cleopatra. Zookeepers are careful not to disturb her after labor. (nats, lioness roaring) The cubs are a kind of miracle for the zoo. A devastating flood wiped our nearly 300 animals last year when many of them drown. These latest additions are the silver lining to a tragic past.
