Winner Strategy: UNICEF Calls Political Parties For Prioritizing To Children

UNICEF urged all Myanmar’s political parties involved in the 2015 elections to make new commitments for children as 99 days remains before the election, according to the press statement released on Saturday. 
 UNICEF’s Representative to Myanmar Bertrand Bainvel called political parties to prioritize children, at the centre of their platforms and programs, saying that is the clear winning strategy. He also says that election can bring a critical positive impact on children’s live, which will benefit the country’s future, to be able to closer to the ASEAN average.
The statement highlighted that millions of children in Myanmar still lack opportunities, as children are over represented in the poorest sections of the population.
With the support from the International Foundation for Electoral Systems (IFES), UNICEF reminded participants of the important elements that support better outcomes for children contained in the recently established framework for action for children.
According to the statement, UNICEF and the NGO child Rights Working Group (NCRWG) are working together to secure commitments from political parties to increase social spending for children should they get elected, and to provide an opportunity for children to raise their concerns with candidates.
