Yoga: Int’l Day Observed In Yangon

2nd International Yoga Day is a UN designated day which falls on June 21st. The Indian embassy in Yangon organized the Pre-Yoga day event at the People’s Park, on Sunday.  

Yoga, originated from Indian tradition, is famous worldwide for its power to improve blood circulation.  About 400 yoga enthusiasts including old people joined this event. A participant Mya Thein, 62 years old, said she is doing Yoga to maintain her good health.

PARTICIPANT, MYA THEIN: Yoga is very beneficial in my daily life. I’m 62 years old now, but still active like a young person as I practice Yoga regularly for over 2 years. I also welcome other people to do this as it improves blood circulation.

PARTICIPANT, THUZAR WIN: Yoga is such a thing that everyone can do, no matter how old they are. This kind of event is good for us. I hope Yoga to be famous among people in this country.

Experts said that people from 10 to 85 years old can practice Yoga saying practicing Yoga can bring harmony between mind and body. 

Art of Living, one of the most famous Yoga organizations of the world joined the celebration in Yangon. 2 local and Indian trainers presented Yoga to the participants.

INTERNATIONAL FACULTY, ART OF LIVING, SAMIR JOLLY: “So yoga, it is not just physical exercise, you know, many times you just think that it is just physical exercise is yoga, and gymnastics is not yoga. Yoga means unity, unity of the self with the higher self.”

According to the Indian history, the science of Yoga has its origin thousands of years ago, and they believe that it has appeared even before the first religion or belief systems were born.
