Hydropower Projects : China-Myanmar Cooperation

China-Myanmar Electric Power Cooperation Commission met in Nay Pyi Taw on Tuesday. Union Minister for Electric Power U Khin Maung Soe told to implement the hydropower projects after assessments for social and environmental impacts of local communities. The meeting’s minute and record on donation of equipment for flood hit areas were signed by Chairman of CMEPCC Mr. Liu Qi and Deputy Minister for Electric Power U Maw Thar Htwe. China also handed over the draft agreements on cooperation for electric power sector and implementation of hydropower projects to Myanmar. This is the third commission meeting for Myanmar and China on Cooperation in Electric Power sector. China has invested in Myanmar’s electric power sector especially in hydropower generation. 18 hydropower projects have been agreed to be implemented as priority at the second commission meeting.
