Russia, China reiterate peaceful dialogue on Korean Peninsula issue
China and Russia held their second consultation on northeast Asia security in Moscow on Friday, calling for dialogue to solve the Korean Peninsula issue. Chinese Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs Kong Xuanyou and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Igor Morgulov co-chaired the meeting, which was attended by officials from the two countries' foreign affairs, national defense and security departments. Regarding the Korean Peninsula issue, the two sides agreed to maintain peace, stability and denuclearization in the region while committing to solving the problem through talks. Both countries agreed that the United Nations Security Council’s sanctions on North Korea should be implemented to effectively curb its plans to develop nuclear and missile programs. The two sides also called on the concerned parties to keep restraint and avoid actions that may raise the tension in the peninsula. The two sides also agreed to continue close cooperation on major international and regional issues.
