A view of the front-lines in Sirte

Libyan forces battle Islamic State militants in their former stronghold of Sirte. Deborah Lutterbeck from Reuters reports. Reporter, Reuters, Deborah Lutterbeck <<< The debris of war in this Libyan city as the fight goes on to clear this Islamic State stronghold. Forces dominated by fighters from Misrata and aligned with Libya's U.N.-backed government have been battling to capture Islamic State's former stronghold for more than four months. Supported since August by U.S. air strikes, they have taken control of most of the city - but the fight continues with militants trapped in a thin residential strip near Sirte's seafront for several weeks. On Sunday, Libyan forces repelled an attempted ambush - but lost at least eight of their men. A Dutch photojournalist was also killed in the fighting - in a street-by-street battle that comes amid fears that militants, who were thought to have escaped in the early stages of the battle - have now regrouped to launch counter attacks.
