Bermuda preps as Hurricane Nicole bears down

Preparations are underway in Bermuda as Hurricane Nicole closes in. Julie Noce from Reuters reports. Reporter, Reuters, Julie Noce <<< Residents and shop owners in the Bermuda capital Hamilton are prepping for what could be massive storm. Hurricane Nicole- a Category Four- is headed towards the region with sustained winds of up to 130 miles per hour according to the National Hurricane Center. The NHC said there could be up to eight inches of rain when the storm passes near or over the region later on Thursday. There are about 65,000 people on the affluent island which is located about 640 miles east of Cape Hatteras North Carolina. Bermuda has strict building codes and is well prepared for storms during the June through November hurricane season. Nicole comes on the heels of another massive storm, Hurricane Matthew, which wrecked havoc on Haiti. That Category Four storm killed some 1000 people and left hundreds of thousands of others homeless.
