Cargo Train: Myanma Railways Announced Tender Winning Companies

Myanma railways announced two local tender winning companies to operate running the cargo or freight train, at the press in Yangon, Sunday.

Out of 11 local private companies, the Resources Group of Logistics Co., Ltd. and Asia Sun Logistics Co., Ltd. won the tender for the project.

Ministry of Rail Transportation and the Tender Invitation and Evaluation Committee have invited the proposals of EOI for 20-year Cargo train project since 2014.

Deputy General Manager (Freight), Myanma Railways ,Nyi Nyi Swe: We invited open tender for the freight train in cooperation with private companies. The tender winning companies will buy 3 locomotives and 40 carriages for running the freight train during a year. As the initial step, we will support the train driver and testing the strength of carriages.

According to Myanma Railways, 3.58 million tons of goods and freight were transported from 2011 to 2012. The transportation amount decreased to nearly 1.3 million tons in 2014-2015 because the locomotives and carriages were not enough. The project hopes to be better transportation of goods through rail route.

Managing Director, Resources Group of Logistics Co., Ltd. , Myint Maw: We success the tender for fuel freight train. We will buy 3 locomotives and 40 carriages from China, Thaiwan and India. We will run the freight train on Yangon-Mandalay route in the next year. We will run 12 times for a month.

 It is a 20-year project and the freight train will be run on Yangon-Mandalay-Myit Kyina rail route. The tender winning companies will have to pay 30 kyats as the rate of one ton for 1-mile to Myanma Railways.
