Fire Precautionary : Raising Awareness Among The Public

The weather experts are warning of water shortages and extremely high temperatures throughout the country due to El Nino in this year. The prevention on the fire dangers is one of the important things in this season. Wai Mar Naing tell us more.

The weather condition is now hotter than the previous years because of El Nino during this summer and people are suffering from the extreme hot. The extreme hot will support more to the cause of fire incidents. The Fire Services Department is attempting to raise public awareness on fire prevention through conducting trainings, checking at the fuel filling stations and door to door services on fire precaution measures.

Deputy Director ,Yangon Region Fire Services Department ,Aung Swe Win : "During these days, the weather is getting hot so people should alert on fire prevention and they should be careful in using electronic devices. Especially, the fuel is very dangerous for burning so that the oil and gas filling stations should prepare more for fire preventive measures".  

There are over 1,300 fuel stations in Myanmar and they sell mainly the four types of fuel like Diesel, premium diesel, 92 Ron and 95 Ron. Most of the fuel stations are now also making preparedness measures for fire incident because of El Nino weather pattern. 

Manager ,ND-001 fuel station (branch) ,Hla Tin : "The fire precaution is very important for oil and fuel stations in this period.  The fire incidents happen because this is carelessness of the people and another reason is hot weather condition. I think public participation is very important for fire prevention".

Second in-charge ,Denko Trading Co., ltd ,Ye Lin Htet : "Currently, we do the cooling system like water spreading on the customers’ car and also handle carefully the oil and gas pumps in filling fuel. Around the oil station, we put dozens of fire extinguishers and put the water storage tank and  underground pipe line. We send our staffs to fire awareness training conducted by the fire service department". 

178 fire accidents happened across the country in January this year and the incidents caused the loss of over 36.2 billion kyats, according to the Fire Services Department.
