Hope For Help: Evictees Expect Resettlement From New Government
The evictees from No.2 plantation of Mingaladon Township, who had been forcibly removed by the authorities in January, hopes for the resettlement arrangement from the new Government.
Over 390 households have been removed by local authority earlier this year, and the evictees are taking shelter at the road side near POSCO Factory in the Township.
Over 300 people from 125 households are at the camp, and many hopes for resettlement from the Government.
Evictee, Htin Kyaw: Currently, some evictees construct the houses there again. We can’t go there because the officials already removed us. They promised us for resettlement the lands that we lost. Currently, we didn’t see any response from the officials. Actually we need help from the government like health care services and purified water.
The residents are hand-to-mouth people while some are small scale farmers. After the crackdown, most of the residents become jobless, and now they are worrying for future of their children.
Evictee, San San New: I have two children. They dropped out from the school because we lost our houses and plantations. I hope that they can go to school in coming academic year. We want the government to arrange somewhere for us.
Evictee, Thin Thin: Most of the children didn’t sit for the exam which was held on March. The next academic year and raining season are coming soon. So we want the resettlement program from the authority.
The evictees said they are planning to send request letter to the concerned officials from Yangon Region Government.
