Myanmar is one of the signatories to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities in 2011, and soon after it enacted the Law on Rights of Persons with Disabilities in June this year, fruitful results have been achieved for the people with disabilities. The rights for the persons with disability are hoped getting better although Myanmar enacted the Law later than its neighboring countries as it was drafted based on the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, according to the General Secretary of Myanmar Council of Person with Disabilities.

General Secretary ,Myanmar Council of Person with Disabilities ,Nyunt Aung : "If we look at the disabilities situation in Myanmar, it fairly disperses throughout the country. But the service to be convenient for persons with disability is more available and reaching out in the big cities than other places of the country. However, currently many organizations which help persons with disability are increasing more and more".

While the rights for the persons with disability appear getting better, even some of them were elected as MP in the recent Election.

MP ,Aung Kyaw Myaing : "The situation for them is towards positive in the future. Then I believe the movement of the rights for them will thrive so far if the public gets more involved in it".

The General Secretary also pointed out that though job opportunities for people with disabilities are still low, trainings on vocation education have been conducting for them to get ready in an opportune time.

General Secretary ,Myanmar Council of Person with Disabilities ,Nyunt Aung : "The expectation of all persons with disability is to be independent so that they can live on their own. So to independently live and earn on their own, they need education or vocational training. As our country is the developing countries, job opportunities is still difficult for even the normal people. So for the persons with disability, it is more difficult. But we need to try and train the persons with disability to be skilful and ready when job opportunities come at any time".
