Naga New Year : Celebrated In Mountainous Area

Naga New Year Festival is going to be held at Lahe of Naga Self Administered Zone on January 15.Naga New Year Festival always fall in the middle of January after the harvest time. The festival is designated to be held among three towns of Leshi, Lahe and Namyun alternately. Varieties of Naga clans participate in their New Year Festival wherever it is celebrated. It is the tradition of Naga people to share their joy and happiness with friend and guests at this auspicious time.

The visitors can go to the festival by flight or by land route from Monywa. Since the festival is celebrated in the remote mountainous area of Naga ethnics, locals plan to provide free transportation for the trip between Hsin Thay Village and Lahe. Hsin Thay Village is 53 mile from Lahe and situated on the bank of Chindwin River. During the open season, the bus fare from Hsin Thay to Lahe is 25,000 kyats per a passenger. During the festival, 12 booths will be put on displayed which showcase the traditional culture of Naga people, utensils and livelihood.
