Photo Exhibition : Fundraising For The Myanmar Theater Survey
The photo exhibition for fundraising for Myanmar movie theater survey is being held from 20th February to March 6th at Myanmar Deitta gallery in Yangon.
The exhibition only focuses on the photos of photographer of Philip Jablon, an American-born researcher and photographer based in Chiang Mai, Thailand. Since 2009, he has built one of the world’s largest photographer archival records of stand-alone movie theaters across Southeast Asia.
The idea for this exhibition is to build awareness and social importance of stand-alone movie theater in Myanmar.
DIRECTOR ,THE SOUTHEAST ASIA MOVIE THEATER PROJECT ,PHILIP JABLON : “I hope that when peoples see these photographs, it make them think about movie theater in their hometown of the movie theater they grow up going to see movie theater. And I hope to make them think about what’s mean in the important of the building often time the building are destroy. When they closed down, we can’t forget about them but I hope to remind people about them. Maybe we can find he way preserve some.”
The exhibition showcases about 20 photos featuring Myanmar movie theaters, including nearly crumbling ones.
MANAGER ,MYANMAR DEITTA ,YU YU MYINT THAN : "This exhibition will remind us about the movie theater survey. I think this exhibition gives the message to the concerned department and public how to preserve to the movie theaters for long term".
Each photograph will be sold at 350 US dollars and some profits from the exhibition will proceed to the Southeast Asia Movie Theater Project and Myanmar Theater Survey.
