Violin Contest: Promoting Skill & Team Work

A violin contest was held at Thamaing Kayin Baptist Church in Insein and is competed by the violin groups from the churches in Yangon. 

This is the 14th time competition and is annually held in November. At the contest, 9 violinist groups are ready to compete in the competition. 

Coach, Violin department (KBC), Naw Richer: We organized this contest yearly to improve and promote the skill of the children, whether they play like amateur or not. We have 5 variety of competition like solo, duet, quartet and so on. The judges are outstanding Kayin musicians. I hope that this event can be a help for the next generation who interested in violin. 

Before entering the competition, the contestant groups had to practice for a long time. A contestant said holding such competitions is good for children.  

Contestant, Myint Myat: “We have about 5 months to train; we all train our best for the performance. This competition is good for every child because you know these day children always interested in playing games that make them more concern on this music. Music is the part of the life I think so this competition make everyone concentrated on the match and make everyone love to music. Please come and join us if you wish so that more than competition it like a family life it for the glory of god.” 

Over 100 competitors took part in this competition. Among them, Htet Hsu Latt is a gold medalist at the Myanmar Traditional Performing Arts Competition. She said that she wanted to become a professional violinist.   

Contestant, Htet Hsu Latt: I am so happy and exciting. I like playing violin so I've been learning it since I was young. I play it regularly. I want to be a professional violinist. I want to take it as my career. If I win at this competition, I will be very happy and it will be a driving force for me to try my best to reach my goal. 

The contestants also said that this event is very helpful for them because they learned not only music, but also about team work.
