Healthy Liver: World Hepatitis Day Ceremony

2015 World Hepatitis Day took place at University of Nursing on Tuesday. Liver Foundation organized the commemoration ceremony for the third time.

To promote awareness on prevention of hepatitis virus, the World Health Organization designated July 28th as the World Hepatitis Day. In Myanmar, it is estimated that 8% of the people surveyed are found living with hepatitis B virus, while 2 or 3% are suffering from the hepatitis C according to Liver Foundation.

President, Liver Foundation, Dr. Khin Pyone Kyi: 500 million people in the world are being diagnosed with Hepatitis B or C today and half of million people are dead because of that. To promote preventing and curing for hepatitis disease, survey for National Hepatitis Program has now finished in 11 regions and states which is mainly carried out by department of Medical Research. All the survey was targeted to finish in August.

Over 400 nurses, health staffs and blood donors have done blood test and received Hepatitis B vaccine injection with free of charge by the Liver foundation.

Attendee, Phyu Phyu: Honestly I don't do medical check-up regularly. I think this kind of event is good for people as people can get knowledge about Hepatitis B & C so that they can prevent not to get infected or have awareness to do medical check-up whether being diagnosed or not.

Attendee, San San Myint: I am diagnosed Hepatitis C since 2013 and I have received medical treatment for that. As I am a patient with Hepatitis C, I think this kind of event is beneficial for us especially we get knowledge about Hepatitis B and C.

The foundation has done Hepatitis B vaccine injection in about 10000 people across the country so far.
