Thingyan Security: Measures To Reduce Criminal Cases

Yangon Region Police Force is planning to tighten security before and during Thingyan Water Festival. 

Yangon Region Police Force laid down 44 disciplinary rules to be practiced during Thingyan water festival for ensuring security to the public. Plans are underway to assign Police Security Force in each and every township and district during the festival.

Police Lt-Colonel, Yangon Region Police Force (East District), Myint Htwe: We are planning for safety and security in Thingyan water festival.  We also conduct public awareness activities in relation to pick-pocketing, using illegal drugs, and security for Thingyan water festival in the next week. 

The criminal cases during Thingyan have been decreased yearly starting from 2013, and the Yangon Region Police Force is targeting to maintain the momentum in the coming year. 

Police  Major,Yangon Region Police Force, Pyae Sone: We discuss about the further steps to have more security measures than the previous years.  We will make patrolling to the pandals and prevent from using and selling of alcohol and narcotic drugs. We will also prevent possession of illegal weapons. 

This year's Thingyan Water Festival will kick off on April 12 and end on April 16.
