Turkish police seize Zaman newspaper amid fierce protests

Turkish police forced their way through protesters and into the headquarters of Zaman newspaper after a court issued its seizure. Natasha Howitt from Reuters reports. Reporter, Reuters, Natasha Howitt ....This is the scene outside the headquarters of Turkey's Zaman newspaper. Using tear gas and water cannons, riot police push their way through thousands of protesters. The newspaper is the country's largest, and a court has just issued it's seizure. Concerns are mounting that press freedom is under threat. The seizure puts the state editorially in charge. Police eventually break through, storming the offices and scuffling with staff. The ruling comes as President Tayyip Erdogan seeks to quell anything associated with the "Gulen movement". U.S. based Muslim Cleric Fethullah Gulen is an influential foe of Erdogan. Erdogan accuses him of seeking to overthrow the government.
